This is likely the second hardest update I'll write.

All the options have run out.

Jodi has been on a ventilator for 20 days of which nearly two weeks have been under the best medical care available. They've done everything they can, and if she was going to recover, there would have been some improvement by now. Her heart may be strong, but her lungs simply have nothing left to give.

A lung transplant isn't an option now. The transplant doctor literally called me directly to explain why. You can't ask for more than that.

The decision has been made to take Jodi off life support this Saturday. We are respecting her living will, her wish to be an organ donor, her desire to “add to the science,” and her innate right to a dignified and painless end of life.

Barring some tragic event which takes her earlier, Jodi will be surrounded by family and friends on that day. We will celebrate her life and the lives to whom she gives the opportunity of a second chance she didn't get.

Jodi fostered love and compassion in her every endeavor. I can only hope she inspires others to do the same.

This Saturday please say a prayer, sing a song, raise a toast, or roll a Crit Fail in honor of Jodi Black, the Crit Fail Queen, and the love of my life.

We want to share a difficult and heartbreaking update about Aaron’s progress.

After extensive evaluation at Mount Sinai, Aaron’s medical team has determined that he is no longer a candidate for the heart and kidney transplants he had been preparing for. His current condition makes the surgery too high risk. He would not have good chances to make it through the transplant surgeries and even if he did, the new heart would not last very long.

Aaron’s been back home now for a few weeks and he has just been continuing to do dialysis and managing his symptoms. We’ve been setting up fun things to do so he has been able to enjoy the time he has left.

This news has been devastating for all of us who love Aaron and have watched him fight so hard for so long. Throughout years of medical challenges, surgeries, dialysis, and the loss of so much, including his beloved wife Jeannine, Aaron has shown extraordinary strength and resilience.

Now, our focus shifts to ensuring that Aaron’s end‑of‑life journey is filled with comfort, dignity, and love.

The funds raised through this GoFundMe will now be used to support Aaron in this stage of his care – providing accessibility and comfort measures, daily support, and the ability for family to remain by his side. Your generosity will help ease the financial burden during this incredibly painful time and allow us to make sure Aaron is surrounded by the care and compassion he deserves.
